Renekton has struggled to find a strong position in the Riftbound meta, as the Boundrift matchup chart shows. Riftbound Radiance, the fifth set of Riot Games’ League of Legends trading card game, released on 23 October 2026, might change that. One of the new cards that could help is Coalesced Energy, which takes a different approach to resource management and could open the door to a new Renekton strategy. Here is how it works, why it fits Renekton, and a decklist to try.

How Coalesced Energy works in Riftbound
Coalesced Energy changes how you manage resources: at the end of your turn, it recycles all your runes and channels four new, exhausted runes. That limits your long-term resource growth, but lets you spend your resources much more aggressively every turn.
The idea is to build a deck around cards with a relatively low energy cost but a high power cost. Falling Star and Punch First are worth experimenting with. You can also spend those resources to re-equip Gear like Long Sword. By finding Coalesced Energy early, you start playing impactful cards before your opponent is ready to deal with them.
The downside is that you won’t accumulate as many runes as your opponent in the late game. That makes the strategy high-risk, high-reward: build a big enough advantage early and you can snowball the game before your opponent recovers.
Why Renekton works with Coalesced Energy
Renekton, Butcher of the Sands is a particularly interesting candidate because of his legend ability, which lets you spend two power to gain two energy. That gives you more flexibility in managing your resources and converts unused power into additional energy.
With Coalesced Energy in play, the plan is to use Renekton’s ability to develop your board more aggressively. Depending on your resource setup, you can aim to spend six energy and six power, or eight energy and four power, in a single turn. That is a significant advantage, especially in the early game.
Ideally, you play a two-cost unit on turn one. On turn two, you play Coalesced Energy and develop another unit, potentially Noxus Hopeful, using Renekton’s ability to squeeze even more value out of your resources. Your board grows much faster than your opponent expects.
If everything goes according to plan, you overwhelm your opponent with early pressure and keep that advantage for the rest of the game.
Will Coalesced Energy save Renekton?
It is still too early to tell whether Coalesced Energy makes Renekton a strong meta contender again, or whether other legends and colour combinations find better ways to use the card. The strategy also depends heavily on finding Coalesced Energy early enough to make the investment worthwhile.
Nevertheless, Radiance could give Renekton a new way to approach the game. Rather than trying to outlast your opponent, you focus on gaining a resource advantage early and turning it into overwhelming board pressure.
